Before I say anything let me give you a friendly word of advice, never drink a can of Spike energy drink after 8 p.m.! It’s been a long day and I’m up at 2 a.m. looking like a damn rave junkie that popped an e-pill. At the same time, if you are an entrepreneur it could become your best friend.

So thank Spike for tonight’s post….

Ok, so having a good training program and following periodization principles mixed with the right enviroment and a killer attitude (among other factors) will definitely put you on the right track to reaching your goals. Sometimes you just have to break the rules and go nuts, push yourself and train like your life depended on it, no sticking to set and rep schemes and staying within the lines, no limits to where you can go. There will be days where I will put the athletes to the test (me included) and not only will the competition get everyone to go past what they thought they could do but it builds mental toughness. When they stand on the court/field and look at their opponent they will know they never trained as hard as them and just that will give them the edge!

Working so hard my hair’s falling out…

The other thing I need to speak up about is these damn excuses I’ve been hearing lately. I can’t find time to train because…., these are tough times…., but my situation is different, food is so expensive…., do I have to do this, etc. These are the same athletes that are bitching about not starting, wishing that they were leaner, faster stronger, want to get a college scholarship and dominate their sport. Everything in life worth achieving takes sacrifice and when you are not willing to sacrifice, you are not commited enough to achieve your goals.

Some of my guys will train real late because that is the only time that we can get that training session in. I have to wake up early, they have to go to school, some have to work to make it happen. It is by far the optimal situation but they WANT it and they will do what it takes. I would love to get more sleep and spend some more time with my wife but I to reach my goals and help the athletes reach their I am making a sacrifice at this point in time.

If you are not willing to do what it takes to achieve your goals then you do not even have the right to say that you want something bad enough. Prove it and walk before you talk.

The Spike is slowly wearing off and I’m taking my ass to bed….

Matt Fields breaking the rules just like he’s gonna break bats hitting home runs!

Do you ever break the rules in training and see where you can take it to? Let me know what type of no rules training you get your athletes into and what results it has produced.
